Beautiful Tenggol Island
Pulau Tenggol or Tenggol Island is an island off the coast of Terengganu,Malaysia. It is the last string of islands that include Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang.
The island was traditionally uninhabited.
The Tenggol group of islands is the most southernly of Terengganu's Marine Parks. It consists of Pulau Tenggol (Tenggol Island), Pulau Nyireh, Tokong Timur, Tokong Burung and Tokong Talang/Tokong Kemudi, Tokong Laut.
Pulau Tenggol lies 14 nautical miles off the coast of quiet fishing town of Kuala Dungun, Terengganu, Malaysia. This rocky island about 50 hectares in size, spans less than 3 kilometres in length and 2 kilometres at its widest point, is one of the most beautiful and serene islands off Peninsular Malaysia's east coast, with spectacular rocky cliffs that offer many excellent dive sites.(More than25 dive sites)
One of the island’s attractions is that it is close to its original state. A virgin island with its white sandy beaches backed by steeply forested cliffs is a pleasant retreat away from the city. Activities range from snorkelling, scuba diving, jungle trekking or just basking under the sun on the white sandy beach. At Pulau Tenggol, divers and Snorkellers alike can find pristine coral formations and a number of submerged rocks with excellent coral growths. Pulau Tenggol and its surrounding islands offer good visibility with teeming of marine life and a wide variety of hard and soft corals.
Divers will discover that Tenggol offers great diving experiences, ranging from deep diving, drift diving and 2 wreck dive for the advanced divers or experienced divers.
The fantastic shallow dives are great for
the least experienced divers.

How to get there????
Pulau Tenggol is another beautiful diving getaway island lies offshore of Kuala Dungun in the southern of Terengganu. This tiny and compact island is only 45 minutes from the coastal quite jetty in Kuala Dungun. It is as small as 3km in length and 2km in width. However, this doesn’t prevent it from becoming a paradise for many people especially diving enthusiasts.

Tenggol Coral Beach Resort bordering the sandy strectch of Teluk Air Tawar. 20 natural timber chalet blends harmoniously into the environment, nestled comfortably amongst the lust green fringing beach making it the biggest resort in Pulau Tenggol. It takes 45 minutes from the Jetty to the island by speed boat.
Electricity will be provided for in between 5.00pm to 10.00am in the morning for air conditioning. However, electricity for other usage will be 24 hours.(e.g Fan,Lighting, Hot Shower & etc)
Foods catered are typically of local flavours and are Halal.
How to get there...
By Bus
There are regular and daily bus services from most of the major cities and towns within Peninsular Malaysia. The nearest destination is Dungun town. Journey normally takes 5-6 hours from Kuala Lumpur. There are boat operators and travel agents at Kuala Dungun jetty that provides boat to Pulau Tenggol.
By Air
There are daily and regular flights to the nearest destination of Kuala Terengganu. Malaysian Airlines, Air Asia and Firefly ply direct routes either from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. There are taxi and car rental services at the Kuala Terengganu Airport. Journey takes an hour to Kuala Dungun Jetty.( For Singaporean it is best to book your flight from Senai Airport, Johor direct to Kuala Terengganu)
By car
The drive from Kuala Lumpur to Dungun takes about 4-5 hours. Take the Karak Highway to get to Cherating. From there, follow the sign board to Dungun town. Dungun town is 79 km before Kuala Terengganu. Departing early in the morning should be convenient as one reaches Dungun around 7.00am. The boat services starts as early as 8.00 am but it depends upon the weather condition. It is advisable to catch the early morning boat. There are few hotels and resorts around Dungun town should one wish to spend a night earlier to relax and explore Dungun.

Diving
The dive season starts on 1 March and finishes on 31 October every year.
Tokong Laut or The Mini Highway
Tokong Burung Amazing Grace Tokong Talang Pulau Nyireh Coral Garden or The two bays on the east side of P.Tenggol Northeastern Bay or Teluk Rajawali Teluk Air Tawar Drifting from Batu Chanchand to Tanjung Gemok Tokong Timor (White Rock) Divers will be able to choose their type of diving, ranging from the relaxing to the more demanding sites. For the more experienced divers, who prefer to get their adrenaline pumping, can opt for the more demanding dive sites like, "Tokong Timur", "Tokong Laut" or "Tanjung Api", where strong currents, deeper waters and pelagics prevail. For those looking for big fish encounters. Pulau Tenggol is located along the whale sharks migratory route normally from August to October every year. It is much anticipated by divers as not many places in the world that these whale sharks stays longer at a certain place. The surroundings of Pulau Tenggol is rich in its marine life and coral haven and this might be the reason that whale sharks choose Pulau Tenggol as their playground. |
